Knights Battle to 1-1 Tie Against Hamilton

Clinton, NY – Freshman Bodie Smith scored for the fourth time in 2026 to help the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team battle to a 1-1 tie against Hamilton College in non-league action Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 2-1-2 on the season and will continue their run of non-league games this weekend when the team is back at home to host University of Rochester.

Shots on goal in the first half were fairly limited, but each team was able to find the back of the net late in the opening 45 minutes thanks to some long ball play. Clarkson was the first to get on the scoreboard when Juan Pestarino harmlessly played the ball back to goalie Ian Burgos, but the Knights countered quickly from there. Burgos quickly passed the ball to Lars Stephensson on the left wing and the junior sent a 60-yard pass down field to Leo Sochanek. After one touch, Sochanek went back to the middle for Bodie Smith and the first-year collegian sent a hard shot into the corner of the net at 38:55 to make it 1-0.

Hamilton responded just three minutes later in similar fashion as the ball was played back from the center line to Brady Hyland, a good 65 yards away from the Clarkson goal. However, Hyland didn't settle the ball for long, playing it forward for Julian Antezana. Clarkson's defenders tried to get a head on the ball to stop the connection, but it sailed just over them where Antezana continued his run. He then popped the ball over Burgos, who had come out to try and cut down the angle, and it settled over the goal line at 42:06 to tie the game 1-1.

The two teams continued to play a similar style in the second half, trying to break loose their offenses with long passes on restarts, and while the teams actually produced more shots in the second half than they did in the first, neither was able to connected over the final 45 minutes, forcing the two teams to settle for the 1-1 tie.

Each team finished with 13 shots, though Clarkson had a small advantage in shots on goal at 5-4, as many of Hamilton's best chances went wide or high. Each team also had four corner kick opportunities. Burgos finished with three saves, and Hamilton's Tobin Walsh also had three saves, with the Continentals adding in a team save.
