The Clarkson University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Christian Diaz as the new head women's lacrosse coach for the Golden Knights in 2026-27.

Diaz takes over a program that spent last season under interim head coach Ben Gaebel (who had coached the program for a decade prior to becoming assistant athletic director). Gaebel had taken the reins of the program from Ally Burrows, who had departed in October 2025 to pursue other opportunities.

Diaz has close to three decades of playing and coaching experience in the sport of lacrosse, including 17 years of coaching experience at various levels, including NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

"Over the past 15 years, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse program has taken considerable strides in both the Liberty League and in the NCAA Division III landscape," Clarkson University Athletic Director Laurel Kane remarked. "Both the hiring committee and I believe that Christian Diaz is the right fit to grow the program further and help the Golden Knights take the next step in their evolution as a perennial playoff team."

Diaz has been the inaugural coach in starting up programs at a couple of stops at the collegiate level, but most recently began the program at Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2023, a position he held for two years before departing for a job with NCSA College Recruiting after the 2025 season.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Clarkson community," Diaz said. "I want to thank Laurel Kane and Ben Gaebel for such an amazing opportunity to lead not only an elite lacrosse program but to represent an elite university as a whole and I cannot wait to continue building onto an already strong record of team success."

Coaching at various levels since 2010, Diaz began his career back at Notre Dame College Prep and eventually moved to the college ranks in 2014 as an assistant at Missouri Baptist University. Since then he has had stops at Robert Morris University, Augustana College, Clarke University, and the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy, with his most recent position being at Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Diaz graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a degree in justice studies and also has received a master's degree from DePaul University in public service management.
