Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Knights Upended by Vassar in Regular-Season Finale, 17-13

Poughkeepsie, NY – A big second half, which included a 4-0 run at the start of the third quarter, allowed Vassar College to overcome a first-half deficit to down the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Knights closed out the 2026 regular season with a 17-13 defeat against the Brewers.

The Golden Knights moved to 10-7 overall and 4-6 in the Liberty League while Vassar edged forward to 7-8 and 2-8. Clarkson had already clinched a spot in the Liberty League playoffs, and the Golden Knights did not drop any in the seedings with the loss, clinching the sixth spot thanks to a Skidmore loss. Both Clarkson and RIT finished with a 4-6 record in the Liberty League, but the Knights ended with the sixth spot due to their head-to-head win over the Tigers back in late March.

The two teams traded runs in the early going as Vassar scored three times in the first seven minutes to take the lead, but the Golden Knights tallied four times in a stretch of just over five minutes overlapping the end of the first and start of the second quarters for a 5-3 lead. Vassar came back to tie the game twice in the second quarter, only to see Clarkson pick up two goals in the final two minutes for an 8-6 lead at the break.

Coming out strong in the third, Vassar scored three times in four minutes to take the lead, taking advantage of Clarkson penalties that allowed the Brewers to score twice while up a player in the third. Clarkson rallied back to within one (11-10) on a Lauren McCorry goal with less than two minutes to go, but a last second goal from Sigrid Fredlund returned the margin to two through three periods. Vassar scored two more times at the start of the fourth to build the margin up to four, and the Brewers had an answer for every Clarkson score the rest of the way as the teams finished with a four-goal gap.

Makenna Cassin scored six goals and added three groundballs, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls, giving her a team-best 42 goals on the season heading into the playoffs. Sydney Nakas contributed five assists while Annie Dufault (3-0-3) and Gabby Cranfield (0-3-3) each had three points.

For Vassar, Elizabeth Burgess notched six points on two goals and four assists, Tess Billings produced five points with four goals and one assist, and Karina Gyllenhaal had five points thanks to two goals and three assists. Emilia Diliberto also had four points on three goals and one helper to go along with her 11 draw controls and four groundballs.
