Clarner and Francis Once Again Top Knights Competitors at ECSC Divisionals

Ripton, VT - Larger fields than usual resulted in similar results for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team as Matthew Clarner was the runner-up in the 7.5K Classic and Skylar Francis ended up 15th in the women's race to headline the results on day two of the ECSC Divisionals, held at Rikert Outdoor Center.

The Golden Knights' men finished second out of seven teams with 12 points, only three behind Paul Smiths, while the women placed sixth out of eight squads with 62 points.

Clarner was 38.24 seconds off the pace to take the second spot in a field of 82 skiers, finishing his 7.5K Classic run in 23 minutes, 52.9 seconds and starting off the Clarkson scoring. The interval start saw Torsten Brickley finish with a time of 24:41.5, which was the sixth-fastest time in the field, and Adam Jansen closed out his turn in 25:11.4, placing 11th overall. Among the scoring spots, that had the Knights gaining points for second, fourth, and sixth, putting them at 12 points total.

Just slightly further down the leaderboard for Clarkson was Silas Bartol, who placed 14th in 25:28.1. Clarkson had two other skiers finish in the top third of the field, as Nathaniel Burke came in 23rd in 26:12.1 and Oliver Dolcino placed 27th with a time of 27:07.6. Also in the top 30 was Dillon Frank, who took 29th in 27:19.9.

For the women, Skylar Francis ended up 15th out of 97 skiers with a time of 32:11.2, garnering sixth-place points among team scorers. Janneke Baks later finished 69th in 42:48.9 and Clare Janas was 79th in 47:08.1.
