Clarkson Heads to Vermont to Open Home-and-Home Weekend
Coming off a shutout victory at Cheel Arena, the Clarkson University Men's Hockey team heads to Vermont tonight to begin a home-and-home series with the Catamounts. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse, with coverage on ESPN+ and Clarkson's radio broadcast on 99.3 FM.
The Golden Knights enter at 2-2-0 after splitting last weekend's series with Canisius. Following an overtime loss in the opener, Clarkson responded with a 5-0 victory Saturday as 11 players recorded a point and
Shane Soderwall stopped all 19 shots he faced. The Knights finished with a 29-19 advantage in shots on goal, scored twice on the power play and held Canisius scoreless in four opportunities with the extra skater.
That balanced production has been a feature of Clarkson's opening four games. Eight different skaters have accounted for the team's 11 goals, with
Tyler Wallace,
Adrian Misaljevic and
Hayden Reid scoring twice apiece. The Knights have also converted five of 15 power-play chances, giving them a 33.3 percent success rate entering the weekend.
Tonight presents an intriguing special-teams matchup against a Vermont penalty kill that has successfully defended all seven opposing power plays this season. The Catamounts also received strong goaltending from Jacob Oster last weekend, when he stopped 56 of 59 shots against Boston University and earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors.
Vermont enters at 1-2-0 after splitting two tight games with the Terriers. The Catamounts earned a 2-1 victory Friday before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision Saturday, providing Clarkson with a clear reminder of the challenge awaiting in Burlington.
Tonight marks the 91st meeting between the programs, with Clarkson holding a 60-29-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Knights won the most recent matchup, 3-1, in Burlington on October 19, 2024. Following tonight's contest, the teams head to Potsdam for Sunday's rematch at Cheel Arena, scheduled for 4 p.m.
