No. 9 Clarkson Takes Unbeaten Start on the Road to No. 12 UConn
The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team faces its first road test of the season tonight when the ninth-ranked Golden Knights visit No. 12 UConn at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Connecticut. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., opening a two-game non-conference series between nationally ranked opponents.
Clarkson heads into the weekend at 2-0-0 after a productive opening series against RIT at Cheel Arena. The Knights earned a 6-3 victory in the opener before completing the sweep with an 8-1 win Saturday, providing an encouraging offensive start to the 2026–27 campaign.
Raedyn Spademan and
Jessie Pellerin highlighted Saturday's victory with hat tricks, as Clarkson broke open a scoreless game with three second-period goals and five more in the third. Spademan added an assist for a four-point afternoon, while Pellerin scored Clarkson's final three goals.
Shelby Laidlaw contributed a goal and two assists,
Jaela Carter collected three assists, and
Layla Matthew added two helpers.
Kennedy Sisson also scored in the win.
The Knights received a strong performance in goal from
Kalia Pharand, who stopped 25 shots Saturday. Clarkson finished with a 38-26 advantage in shots on goal, combining sustained offensive pressure with a solid effort at the other end of the ice. Carrying that balance into tonight's matchup will be a priority as the Knights adjust to playing away from Cheel for the first time this season. Clarkson will also get a huge boost in the line up with the return of
Keira Hurry and
Kate Manness on the blueline.
UConn enters its home opener looking for its first victory after dropping a pair of 4-2 decisions at St. Cloud State last weekend. Junior forward Claire Murdoch leads the Huskies with three points through two games.
Clarkson holds a 5-2-1 advantage in the all-time series, but the teams split their two meetings in Potsdam last season.
The series concludes Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ and HockeyEast.tv for international viewers.
