Fresh off a hot start to the 2025 campaign, the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team will be met with warm temperatures over the weekend as they make the trip to Vermont to participate in the University of Vermont Invitational, at the Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski and Bike Center in Huntington. Temperatures Saturday are projected to be near 40 degrees on the mountain, while Sunday shows a bit cooler at 25 degrees.

The Events: Over the course of the weekend the teams will participate in what is called a criterium race, which is a multi-lap event over with a pre-determined amount of time. Once the first skier hits the set time and reaches the finish line over the short course, the skiers then close out the event, with places being set in the amount of time back from the first-place finisher.

The Team: Clarkson managed two first-place team finishes, the only school to score in single-digits through both days. Matthew Clarner kickstarted his college competition resume with two first-place finishes over this past weekend in Jackson, N.H. The freshman posted a 39:30.9 in the 12k race on Saturday and a 17:39.7 in the 7.5k on Sunday. Finn Payne was right on the heels of Clarner the first day, with a second-place finish at 40:15.6 but dropped off to fifth place overall on Sunday with a 18:42.4 timestamp. Contributing to the team scoring both days was Joey Rouhana, crossing the finish line in third at 40:48.5 in the 12k, following that up in second place in the 7.5k at 17:55.7. Further down the leader board, Torsten Brickley, Silas Bartol, Oliver Dolcino and Adam Jansen will all look to improve on middle-of-the-pack finishes in New Hampshire.

For the women, consistency was the final product of the weekend for Skylar Francis who secured two second-place finishes on Saturday and Sunday at times of 54:10.1 and 22:20.9 respectively, with her time Sunday being one second behind that of the first place skier. Clare Janas improved on a 22nd place finish on Saturday with a 19th place finish on Sunday, while Regan Joly would place 14th during the 12k race but not compete Sunday during the 7.5k race.
