The Series: Clarkson has controlled the outcomes against both Canton and Plattsburgh as late. The Golden Knights are 8-2 all-time against the Kangaroos, and have won the last five by a score of 13.6 goals per game. The Cardinals are still a fairly new program, and Clarkson has won its two games against them by scores of 24-2 (2019) and 18-5 (2022).

Key Stats for Clarkson (2-0): If the first two games are any indication, the scoring leader for the Knights could be hotly contested for all of 2023, as seven different players have accumulated six points or more already. Julia Lavarnway leads the team with 11 points on two goals and nine assists, while Hailey Millington (7-1-8), Chrissy Benedict (5-3-8), and Lauren Shanahan (6-2-8) have also enjoyed big games in the early going. All of Shanahan's points came in Clarkson's 25-6 win over SUNY Potsdam, but she has also been a contributor on draw controls, winning 17. Madelynn Barnum is also among the team leaders in points (6), draws (14), and caused turnovers (6). She scored six goals against SUNY Canton in last year's win.

Key Stats for SUNY Canton (0-1): The Kangaroos lost their season-opener against Oswego State on Friday and the team relies heavily on the scoring of two players. Samantha Dayter had what some would call a nice career in 2022 alone, with 127 points on 70 goals and 57 assists, though she was held to just two goals against the Knights. Maddy Caron also produced 62 points on 55 goals and seven assists a year ago, but she was held scoreless against Clarkson last year. The duo combined for all five of Canton's goals against Oswego State.

Key Stats for Plattsburgh State (2-0): The Cardinals are in their fifth season of varsity play, though 2020 was heavily abbreviated. Emma McLaughlin leads the team in several categories, including team-highs in groundballs (15), caused turnovers (9), goals (8), and points (9). Narrowly trailing McLaughlin in the scoring category is Lindsay Guzzetta, who has produced eight points on six goals and two assists thus far, while also producing a team-high seven draw controls. Johanna Malone has posted a pair of wins in the crease for the Cardinals with a 7.00 goals against average, though she was only called upon to make nine saves in those wins and has a save percentage below 40.0%.
