Four in Top Five for CU Nordic at Vermont Invitational

Huntington, VT – With three racers in the top five, the Clarkson University Men's Nordic Ski team picked up a win at the Vermont Invitational in the 1.5K Skate Criterium event held at Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski and Bike Center.

Since the temperatures were sub-zero for most of Saturday, the event needed to get creative and held a criterium race, which is a multi-lap event over with a pre-determined amount of time. Once the first skier crosses hits the set time and reaches the finish line over the short course, the skiers then close out the event, with places being set in the amount of time back from the first-place finisher.

For the men, Conner Roberts was second in the field of 65 racers, finishing 54.1 seconds behind the leader. Kai Richter ended up third, only 2.6 seconds behind Roberts (-56.7 seconds overall), and Joey Rouhana closed out the team scoring in fifth, trailing by 1:38.8. That trio narrowly defeated Paul Smiths by two points, recording 10 points overall to the Bobcats' 12 points.

Three other Clarkson skiers were within the one lap timing section of the results, with Cameron Bancroft taking 12th (-3:13.9), Hunter Krebs in 21st (-4:11.5), and Noah Payne coming in 23rd (-4:29.1). Oliver Dolcino (29th), Adam Jansen (34th), Eric Nowak (38th), Derek Ferreira (47th), and Konrad Kremzner (49th) were all more than a lap behind on the 1.5K course.

On the women's side, Ava Schieffert was fourth among 49 skiers, only 27.4 seconds behind the first-place finisher. Lillian Magnus was also within the one lap, taking 13th and behind by 2:46.1.
