Bancroft Top Clarkson Skier in Saturday Sprint at ECSC Regionals

Lake Placid, NY – Cameron Bancroft took the third spot in the 1.3K Sprint on Saturday to highlight the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team's effort as the Golden Knights competed in the ECSC Regionals at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

The Golden Knights' men placed second out of seven teams with 16 points thanks to Bancroft's podium spot, while the women took seventh out of eight teams. Clarkson will be back in action on Sunday as the teams compete in the 7.5K Classic.

Bancroft had the sixth-best time out of 53 skiers in the initial qualifying times, but upped his effort in the heats as the day went on, climbing to the third spot in the 'A' finals with a time of 2 minutes, 29.2 seconds over the 1.3K course. Teammate Conner Roberts was just one spot lower in the standings, as he took fourth in 2:31.0. In the 'B' finals, Joey Rouhana and Kai Richter finished in consecutive spots as well, with Rouhana taking ninth in 2:35.6 and Richter placing 10th with a time of 2:37.4. Noah Payne (21st, 2:39.7) and Thomas Robinson (29th, 2:54.9) also made it through the initial qualifying rounds to reach the quarterfinals.

For the women, Clarkson added a third skier to the roster as Ava Frost, who was on the Cross Country team in the fall, helped the Knights complete a team score. Frost was 49th out of the 49 skiers in the qualifying round as she gets used to the skis again, but that was enough to help Ava Schieffert and Lillian Magnus record a team score. Schieffert took 10th overall as she participated in the 'B' finals with a time of 3:25.0, while Magnus came in 25th in the quarterfinal round in 3:35.3.
