Roberts and Rouhana Take Top Spots at Castleton Invite

Paul Smiths, NY – Senior Conner Roberts and freshman Joey Rouhana finished one-two on the podium as the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team opened the 2023 season with a solid showing in the Castleton Invitational held at the Visitor Interpretive Center near the campus of Paul Smiths College.

The Golden Knights' men took the top spot among the eight teams, finishing with 17 points, one ahead of the second-place team. Clarkson's women only had two active skiers, putting them outside of the complete team scores, and tying them for seventh among eight squads.

Roberts had the top time in the 10K Skate, crossing the finish line a full minute faster than the rest of the field (57 total starters) with a time of 27 minutes, 57.3 seconds. Freshman Joey Rouhana placed well in his first ECSC race, taking second with a time of 28:58.9. Senior transfer Kai Richter closed out Clarkson's team score with a 14th-place finish, closing out the event in 30:37.3. Cameron Bancroft was one spot later in the standings with a time of 30:40.1. The Golden Knights also had two other skiers in the top half of the field, as Noah Payne took 25th (32:17.4) and first-year Oliver Dolcino came in 27th with a time of 32:22.9.

On the women's side, an injury kept Clarkson from putting together a complete team for scoring purposes, but the two active skiers performed well. Senior Ava Schieffert finished in 12th place among 52 skiers in the 10K Skate, finishing the tour in 36:50.8. Junior Lillian Magnus also was in the top half of the field, taking 21st^t with a time of 37:41.3.
