Bancroft Wins Sprint for CU Nordic

Paul Smiths, NY – Senior Cameron Bancroft made his way through the qualifying rounds and ended up with a first-place finish in the 1.4K Sprint to headline the Clarkson University Nordic Ski teams performance on Saturday at the Paul Smiths College Competition Trails.

The Golden Knights' men finished in first among five teams with nine points ahead of Paul Smiths (15), University of Vermont (30), Castleton (39), and Cornell (40). The Golden Knights' women ended up in fourth out of five teams with 37 points, trailing Vermont (10), Paul Smiths (24) and Cornell (35), but ahead of Middlebury (39). The team will return to Paul Smiths on Sunday to participate in a Skate relay.

Clarkson's men had three of the top six qualifying times as Conner Roberts (3:27.7), Cameron Bancroft (3:29.6), and Noah Payne (3:33.9) made their way through the numerous rounds to qualify for the 'A' finals. There, Roberts was able to claim the top time, with Roberts taking third and Payne fifth. Simon Zehr finished the quarterfinals in 21st and Thomas Robinson was 22nd in the field of 56 skiers.

For the women, Ava Schieffert had the second-best qualifying time (4:27.6) among 40 competitors, but ended up in fourth in the finals to lead the Knights. Lillian Magnus ended up in 15th and Hannah Yorkey took 27th to close out Clarkson's team scoring. Kathryn Konopko also placed 28th and Gabriella Broga was 33rd.
