Roberts First, Schieffert Third at ECSC Mansfield Divisionals

Breadloaf, VT – Juniors Ava Schieffert and Conner Roberts were the top finishers for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team, as the Golden Knights again were among the leaders in the ECSC Mansfield Divisionals on Sunday morning.

Clarkson's men finished first in the 15K Classic with 10 points, ahead of University of Vermont (26), Cornell (32), Castleton (37), Dartmouth (43), and Middlebury (51), while the women were second with 18 points, behind Vermont (15), but ahead of Middlebury (23), Cornell (30), and Dartmouth (51).

The women's race was first on the docket Sunday, and junior Ava Schieffert took third in the field of 38 competitors, crossing the finish line in 54 minutes, 43 seconds, a little under 80 seconds off the pace set by a Castleton skier. Melissa Brown took sixth in 57:33, edging out the seventh-place finisher by four seconds, and Hannah Yorkey came in 15th in 1:04:41 to round out Clarkson's team score. Kathryn Konopko ended up in 20th in 1:07:20, Gianna Capoccia took 24th in 1:09:21, and Gabriella Broga came in 26th with a time of 1:11:07.

Following the mass start of the men's 15K Classic, Conner Roberts was the first to cross the finish line among the 43 participants with a time of 41:21, 14 seconds faster than the runner-up from Castleton. Clarkson secured the win thanks to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, from seniors Cameron Bancroft and Simon Zehr. Bancroft closed out the race in 44:05 and Zehr finished with a time of 44:30, helping the Knights win the men's race by a wide margin. Even without Roberts, Clarkson still would have finished first, though with a tighter margin, as Hunter Krebs came in 12th in 46:27. Noah Payne was the next Clarkson skier to cross, finishing in 47:07 for 14th, and Thomas Robinson took 21st in 47:53.
