Lee and Reino Headline Clarkson Swimming & Diving at Middlebury Invite

Middlebury, VT – Senior Taylor Lee had three top-10 finishes and freshman Vincent Reino found himself in the top-five twice as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program closed out its final regular-season event at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday.

The Golden Knights will now be off for a few weeks to prepare for the Liberty League Championship meet, held at Ithaca College in mid-February.

In the first session on Friday evening, the top performer on either side was Taylor Lee as she finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke (32.04 seconds) and 12th in the 50 butterfly (28.63). Other females in the top 10 for the Knights were Bella Triolet, who was seventh in the 50 backstroke (30.64), Paige Cutler, who took sixth in the 1-meter dive (195.90 points), Gabriela McSwieney, who came in seventh in the 1000 freestyle (11:25.21), and Paige Fronczak, who took eighth in the 50 freestyle (26.26). Amelia Kanner had the best time among Clarkson swimmers in the 200 individual medley, coming in 14th in in 2:24.79.

Both of Clarkson's relay teams were in the top six, as the group of Taylor Lee, Kaili Sacco, Bella Triolet, and Paige Fronczak took fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.66. That same group combined to place sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:18.59.

The men's top finisher was Vincent Reino, as he placed fifth in the 50 backstroke in 27.33. Schuyler Thomas had the team's top score in the 1-meter dive with 289.70 points, good enough for sixth. Both Colin Urmaza and Tristan Miranda placed seventh in their respective events, as Urmaza swam the 50 breaststroke in 29.01 and Miranda closed the 1000 freestyle in 10:33.38. Nicholas Miller was also in the top 10, coming in ninth in the 50 freestyle in 23.21 seconds. Jayden Seymour had the best time for Clarkson in the 200 individual medley (12th, 289.70) and Cooper Mattice was 14th in the 50 butterfly (25.05).

In the 400 medley relay, the group of Cooper Mattice, Calvin Woolfolk, Michael Schroeder, and Nicholas Miller took fifth with a time of 3:45.57, while Tim Jordan, Vincent Reino, Finn Halstead, and Miller ended the 200 freestyle in ninth place with a time of 1:32.30.

The second session on Saturday morning saw both Cooper Mattice and Vincent Reino standout. Mattice was third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:29.64, while Reino's time of 59.89 seconds was good enough for third in the 100 backstroke. Both Michael Schroeder and Calvin Woolfolk were 10th in their respective events as well, with Schroeder closing out the 100 butterfly in 55.13 and Woolfolk touching the pad in 1:03.16 in the 100 breaststroke. The top man in the 200 butterfly for Clarkson was Nicholas Miller, who was 20th in 1:57.52. Clarkson's foursome of Mattice, Miller, Miranda, and Guillermo Barrios took fourth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:35.89. The group of Mattice, Woolfolk, Schroeder, and Miller came in eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:42.47.  

In session two for the women, Madelyn Nowicki had the best finish, coming in seventh in the 400 individual medley in 5:02.93, though Taylor Lee's eighth-place showing was close as she finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.25. Bella Triolet (1:04.84, 100 backstroke), Grace Girard (2:06.81, 200 butterfly), and Kaili Sacco (1:07.30, 100 butterfly) each took 11th in their fields. Clarkson's women also finished fourth in the 800 freestyle relay thanks to Triolet, Lee, Fronczak, and McSwieney (8:30.51) while Triolet, Lee, Sacco, and Fronczak combined for a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:57.15).

The final session was comparatively abbreviated when held against the first two sessions, but there were still standout performance for the Knights. Lee took fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.82) while Triolet took eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:17.94), McSwieney came in ninth in the 500 freestyle (5:28.46), and Fronczak was ninth in the 100 freestyle (57.09). That group of four also finished off the meet in the 400 freestyle, combining for a time of 3:51.56 to take 10th in the event.

The men had a few extra top-10 finishes in the final session. Michael Schroeder was sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.55) and seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:06.06) and Schuyler Thomas came in sixth in the 3-meter dive (273.45 points). Tim Jordan took seventh in the 100 freestyle (49.68) and Calvin Woolfolk matched that spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.21). Tristan Miranda also came in eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:06.55). The foursome of Tim Jordan, Finn Halstead, Cooper Mattice, and Nicholas Miller then ended the meet by taking 10th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:23.75.
