CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. William Smith (4/9-10)

One of the few teams to have achieved much success against William Smith College in recent years, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will play a two-game series against the four-time defending Liberty League champion Herons this weekend.

The Series: While the Herons have a 17-2 edge in the all-time series, Clarkson is the only team to have defeated William Smith in the Liberty League between the 2016-2019 seasons. The Knights won 6-4 in 2016 and 9-4 in 2018.

Key Stats for Clarkson (1-3, 0-1 Liberty League): Grad student Katie Sergeant is the only current Clarkson player to have recorded a point against William Smith, having scored three goals during her sophomore season of 2018. Senior Kyrsten Stone, who has never played against the Herons, leads the Knights with 12 points on eight goals and four assists while also chipping in seven groundballs and seven caused turnovers. Grace Hagberg has been efficient in her scoring, tallying nine goals on 18 total shots, to rank second on the team in points and first in goals. Sydney Roderick ranks third on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists and freshman Madelynn Barnum leads the team with 13 draw controls while also adding in six goals.

Key Stats for William Smith (2-3, 2-2 Liberty League): Mekayla Montgomery, the 2019 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, leads the Liberty League in groundballs per game (4.60) and caused turnovers per game (2.60), while Ellen Arena has also contributed considerably on defense with 15 groundballs and seven caused turnovers. Maddie Bamberger has been solid in the crease for the Herons with a 7.75 goals against average and .508 save percentage. On offense, freshman Maddie Montgomery leads the squad with 12 points thanks to 11 goals and an assist, while Payton McMahon has chipped in nine points on seven goals and two assists.
