Clarkson Women Close Out USCSA Nationals with Fifth Title, Knights Men Take Second

Jackson, WY – For the third time in the past four years, the Clarkson University Women's Nordic squad claimed the team title after winning the team relay, a feat that the Golden Knights' men also matched on the final day of the USCSA Nationals held at the Trail Creek Nordic Center.

The Golden Knights' threesome of Sarah Duclos, Bridget Wangler and Ana Witkowski combined for a time of 34 minutes, 43.7 seconds to place first out of 15 teams, edging the second-place team by 45.2 seconds. Clarkson's trio of Michael Giraldi, Simon Zehr and Charles Maitland also took home first-place honors in the team relay with a time of 29:17.1, besting the second team by 22.7 seconds.

Overall, the Golden Knights women won their third team title in the past four years, and fifth overall, with a total of 43 points, 15 ahead of St. Olaf (58). The Clarkson men, after five straight years in third place, edged up to second overall with 91 points, trailing only Castleton (74).

Senior Ana Witkowski wrapped up her collegiate skiing career with three victories in the individual races to take first overall among 38 skiers. Classmate Sarah Duclos ended up in second thanks to two second-place showings and a third-place finish. Sophomore Bridget Wangler closed out the week in seventh (27 points), junior Raili Utiger ended up in 16th (53), and Melissa Brown tied for 32nd (93).

For the men, senior Charles Maitland concluded the week in fourth among 42 skiers with 11 points thanks to three top-five finishes. Sophomore Michael Giraldi came in eighth with two sixth-place finishes (27 points) and freshman Simon Zehr took 18th (61 points). Freshman Cameron Bancroft and senior Timothy Dunn tied for 20th place with 64 points.
