Isaksen and Reusch Picked as AVCA All-Americans

Senior standouts Kate Isaksen and Rachel Reusch of the Clarkson University Volleyball team added to their lists of accolades in 2019 as the pair was honored with AVCA All-American selections when the organization made its formal announcement on Tuesday.

Isaksen was picked as an AVCA All-American Second-Team selection, while Reusch was picked as an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.

Isaksen becomes the first Clarkson Volleyball player to gain AVCA All-American honors on named teams (first, second or third) on three occasions. Only Kirstie Shurie (2014, 2015, both second team) had made it on to two named teams prior to Isaksen, who was picked as an AVCA All-American Third-Team member in 2017 and an AVCA All-American First-Team honoree in 2018.

No other liberos were named to the AVCA First-Team, so Isaksen and two others were considered the top liberos in the country in NCAA Division III. Isaksen ranks 12th nationally in both digs per set (6.13) and total digs (705) and is one of the top players in the country in serve reception at .977. In fact, Isaksen has dropped her reception errors yearly, going from 49 as a freshman to 33 as a sophomore and then to 21 as a junior. This year she has just 11 reception errors in 115 sets, easily the lowest figure among the five liberos on the AVCA All-American Second or Third teams.

Though she doesn't get the same kind of attack attempts as other players who serve as the number one option on offense for their teams, Rachel Reusch did plenty of damage in her opportunities. She ranks 56th in total kills (395) despite ranking 180th in total attacks (955), delivering a .312 hitting percentage and 3.43 kills per set. Reusch also ranked 66th in points per set (4.13). Reusch was chosen as the Liberty League Player of the Year in 2019 and was named an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention for the second straight year.
