Rust Scores 147 to Win North Country Shootout for First-Place Knights

Potsdam, NY – A chilly and damp day pushed scores a little higher than Saturday's round, but the Clarkson University Golf team nevertheless posted its best weekend of the season, winning the North Country Shootout with a two-day score of 602, competing at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course and the Potsdam Town & Country Club.

The Golden Knights shot 297 on Saturday and still scored 305 on Sunday for a two-day total of 602, 14 strokes better than St. Lawrence "Scarlet", which shot 616 (306-310). St. Lawrence "Brown" shot 651 (327-324) to take third, SUNY Canton came in fourth at 653 (319-334), St. Lawrence "Saints" scored 666 (328-338) and SUNY Potsdam rounded out the teams at 698 (344-354).

Junior Chris Rust finished as the medalist for the tournament, scoring 75 on day two to back up his even-par 72 from Saturday. Rust birdied just the first hole, but stayed steady with 13 pars to win the tournament by two strokes. Teammate Thomas Conroy was one-under on Saturday but finished in a tie for second after scoring 78 on day two for a total of 149. Fellow senior Brad Belote consistently shot 76 each day for a score of 152, tallying 12 pars and a birdie on number-15 tie for fourth. Cameron Anthony closed out the Clarkson team scoring on Sunday with a 76, nailing two birdies on the fifth and 16th, ending up in sixth place among the 34 golfers. Mike DiPaola's round was dropped from the team scoring, as he finished with a 165 for the two days.

The Golden Knights had three golfers play as individuals and each scored well. Sophomore Steve Dillon recorded a 152 (75-77) over the two days to finish in a tie for fourth and freshman Zach Pilarchik notched a 75 on day two to finish at 155, tying for seventh. Jonah Miller also ended up in the top half of competitors, scoring a 159.
