Men's Hockey | 9/13/2017 8:51:00 AM

The Clarkson University Men's Hockey team has announced its team leaders for the 2017-18 campaign with Nic Pierog serving as captain and Brett Gervais and Devin Brosseau acting as assistant captains.

"We are extremely excited about this leadership group," stated Head Coach Casey Jones. "Each player has earned the respect of his peers and our staff because of their commitment to excellence on and off the ice.  This is a special group when it comes to being true student-athletes and I know they will take great pride in their leadership roles."

After wearing #20 through his first three years, Pierog will don the #6 this season, becoming the first Golden Knight to honor this jersey since the late Clarkson captain Mike Morrison in 1988-89.  A four-year standout and a fan favorite at Walker Arena, Morrison died in a work-related accident on July 27, 1989.

"The Morrison Family wanted
to see the #6 back on the ice for Clarkson and reached out to us to see if there was someone on the team that embodied what Mike represented to Clarkson Hockey," said Jones. "When you read the tribute the family wrote commemorating Mike, we immediately thought about Nic Pierog. He plays the game hard, is diligent in his school work and treats people the right wayWith Nic being captain for his senior year, this is the perfect person to reintroduce #6 back into Clarkson Hockey in the memory of Mike Morrison."

A native of Georgetown, ONT, Pierog enters his senior campaign this year and served as an assistant captain in 2016-17. A 6-1, 215-pound center, Pierog provides a physical force up front for the Green and Gold, and is steady contributor at the faceoff circle.  Pierog completed his undergraduate degree in finance last spring and is working toward his MBA. He was honored with Clarkson's Fran Neragin Award last year, presented to a Golden Knight who displays unselfish play and sportsmanship both on and off the ice.

A 5-10, 194-pound senior, Gervais
is an engineering major, and also served as an assistant captain last year. A native of Corona, CA, he is a versatile center who does all the little things to help the Knights win. Gervais was voted Clarkson's Best Defensive Player in 2016-17.

Entering
only his sophomore campaign, Brosseau, a 6-1, 200-pound left wing from St. Lambert, QUE, made a significant contribution to Clarkson's most productive offensive showing in 10 years last season.

The Knights begin the year with an exhibition contest on Saturday, September 30 at Cheel Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Clarkson officially opens its 96th season in early October with a weekend series at Cheel Arena against a pair of Big 10 programs, Penn State and Michigan on October 6-7.

The night before their exhibition contest, the Green and Gold will hold their annual "Skate With a Knight" on Friday, September 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Knights will take to the ice with fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures on the Cheel Arena ice. The "Skate With a Knight" event is free and open to the public. All children (14 & under) who attend will get 4 tickets to the exhibition game the following night.
