After a tough midweek loss to neighboring SUNY Canton, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team will look to begin their Liberty League schedule with a win when they play the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on Saturday at 2:00 pm on Hantz Turf Field.
The Tigers come into conference play with a 2-5-1 record. They have out-shot their opponents 111-68 through their first eight games, but have struggled to score, with only 11 total goals, including five in their most recent game, a 5-0 rout of Nazareth. Historically, Clarkson and RIT have been very tightly matched with Clarkson holding a 20-21-3 record in the series. However, Clarkson has not beaten RIT since 2010, losing three straight match-ups in that span.
Luckily for the Golden Knights, the start of conference play also signals the end of any night games on their schedule. The Golden Knights have a 5-4-1 record, but are 0-3 in games that start at 7:00 pm. They will also be happy to play at home on Hantz Turf Field this weekend, where they are 3-0 and have outscored their opponents 6-1 there.
Clarkson has already scored more goals in 2014 than they did all throughout the 2013 season. Marco Parisi (Guilford, C.T.) leads the team in points and assists with eight and four respectively. His assist total is good enough to earn him fourth in the conference. Maximillian Leetz (Breudx, Germany) is just four spots below Parisi on the same list, with three assists of his own. Michael King (Verona, N.J.) has played all ten games in the Clarkson net and has four shut-outs making him the conference leader. He also leads the conference in total saves with 51 and is third in save percentage at .836.
