A two-goal, third-period rally capped off by sophomore Corey Tamblyn ’s (Bobcaygeon, ONT) score with 30 seconds left in regulation gave the Clarkson University Hockey team a hard-earned ECAC Hockey point on the road as the Golden Knights tied archrival St. Lawrence 3-3 before 2,850 North Country fans at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY on Friday night.

The Golden Knights, at 4-9-2 overall and 1-4-2 in ECAC Hockey, will host the Saints (7-6-2, 3-3-1) on Saturday in a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at Cheel Arena in their final game of the 2009 portion of the schedule.

Trailing 3-2 late in regulation, the Knights went on the power play with 67 seconds remaining in the third. Senior Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) won a faceoff just outside the Clarkson blueline to freshman defenseman Andrew Himelson (Monroe, NY). The rookie blueliner sent a cross-ice pass off the left boards just ahead of Tamblyn, who was speeding down the wing. Tamblyn, who went without a goal through his freshman campaign, blew by a St. Lawrence defenseman, picked up the puck and fired in the tying goal from in front to force overtime. Tamblyn has scored both his collegiate goals over the past two games. Beca, who assisted on all three Clarkson goals, picked up his 100th career point.

St. Lawrence had a power play in the extra session, but could not get another goal past the Knights’ sophomore goaltender Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT), who finished with 32 saves.

St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead early in the first as Aaron Bogosian tipped in a shot from the point by Derek Keller 1:40 into the opening frame. Clarkson countered with a power-play marker on one of its three man-advantage situations in the first as sophomore defenseman Mark Borowiecki (Kanata, ONT) connected at 9:43. Beca and junior Scott Freeman (Whitby, ONT) brought the puck up ice, Borowiecki took a pass at the Saints’ blueline and fired in a quick wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat St. Lawrence goaltender Robby Moss through the five-hole to tie the game with his sixth goal of the season and fourth in the past three games.

Early in the second period, St. Lawrence defenseman Peter Child took a shot from just inside the Clarkson blueline that deflected off a stick in front and past Karpowich for a power-play score at 6:02.

The Saints added another goal early in the third when a shot by Travis Vermeulen took an odd bounce in front and past Karpowich to give the home team a 3-1 lead at 3:59.

Sophomore Jake Morley (Ogdensburg, NY) pulled the Green and Gold within one with a power-play marker at 11:47, finishing off assists from Beca and Freeman.
