CU Cross Country Preview - at NCAA Mideast Regional (11/15)

Saturday's NCAA Mideast Regional will be on familiar turf for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, as the Golden Knights return to the Ronald C. Hoffmann Course for a third time in the 2025 season, just two weeks after the team played host to the Liberty League Championships.

Unfortunately for the Green and Gold and the rest of the field descending upon Canton, NY, the weather will not be much more cooperative. Recent wet weather combined with temperatures in the 30s should make for a repeat of conditions during the Liberty League Championships on November 1st, except this time the field will be twice as large.

The Women: Although by this point in the season times are usually going down due to training, the conditions should even things out for most competitors. Gianna Capoccia has been the team's top runner for 2025 and she has averaged 24 minutes, 48.45 seconds per race in four 6000-meter events, putting her at a mile rate of 6:39.24 in those four races. Two weeks ago, she posted a time of 25:07.8, a little slower than would have been expected under ideal conditions. Meagan Speizer has been the team's most consistent runner, averaging 26:40.25 per 6000-meter event with a gap of just 33.5 seconds from her fastest time to her slowest time. Janneke Baks (26:44.55) and Skylar Francis (26:55.43) will also be in the mix for top three scoring for the Knights on Saturday.

The Men: Junior Drew Reigelsperger just missed out on Liberty League All-Star honors at the championship meet when he finished 23rd overall and less than five seconds away from receiving the credential. Reigelsperger has averaged 26:29.0 for each 8000-meter race this year, running at an average pace of 5:19.66 per mile. Though sophomore Matthew Clarner missed one event earlier in the year, he is close to Reigelsperger's average, running at a clip of 26:56.8 per 8K event for a 5:25.25 mile average. Frank Consolazio and James Lynch have gone back and forth in the third and fourth spots for most of the year, with Consolazio averaging 27:23.6 per race and Lynch at 27:32.6 per event.
