Men's Soccer | 11/1/2019 8:00:00 AM

The playoff picture is somewhat less muddled, but the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team still could enjoy a bye, play a midweek home playoff game, or hit the road for a first-round playoff contest depending on the outcome of its game against Union College on Saturday afternoon.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Clarkson owns a slim 17-16-3 lead in the all-time series against the Dutchmen. The Golden Knights are 2-1-2 since 2014 versus Union and the two teams have gone to double overtime in three of the past four meetings. The Dutchmen won last year's game in the 107th minute on a goal from Salvador Lopez.

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-4-3, 4-1-3 Liberty League): The biggest statistic for Clarkson this season is the number one, which is how many losses the Knights have in league play, giving them wins in numerous tie-breaking scenarios. With a Clarkson win, a Hobart loss and a Vassar loss, or with a Clarkson tie, Hobart loss or tie and Vassar loss, the Knights receive a first-round bye. If Clarkson loses, Ithaca loses, and RIT beats Vassar, the Knights could still end up in third place. However, Vassar and Ithaca wins combined with a Clarkson loss would see the Knights tumble to fifth.

Key Stats for Union (10-6-0, 2-6-0 Liberty League): The Dutchmen are already officially eliminated from postseason contention, but are more than capable of playing the role of spoiler. Union started off well and has dominated against non-conference competition, but the team has been mostly silent against Liberty League foes. Union outscored non-league teams 29-6 in eight games, but has scored just seven goals against 13 allowed in eight league contests. Lopez leads the team with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists and Jeremy Conn has 23 points on eight goals and seven assists. Only six of those points for each player has come against Liberty League teams.
