Oswego, N.Y.- Clear-cut opportunities were hard to come by for both sides as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team opened their 2025 season with a 0-0 tie at Oswego State, Friday Evening.
The Golden Knights face a quick turnaround this weekend, travelling to St. John Fisher for a 3 p.m. kickoff, Sunday afternoon.
Clarkson nearly got off to a perfect start just three minutes in as a ball over the top of the defence was chased down by Paul Rolland. The forward took two touches and looked to be in a 1v1 with the charging Laker goalkeeper. A tame shot from the forward near the top of the 18-yard box flew right to the hands of Kyle Rose in net, eliminating the threat. The other lone shot on net in the opening half courtesy of Ian Husselbeck to the bottom center of the goal was gathered by Carter Kladstrup.
Clarkson seemed to gain more of a foothold as the second half started. High pressing and ball possession were both equally apparent to keep the hosts pinned back in their own half, stifling any chances the Lakers had to break the scoring deadlock. The sustained pressure led to some chances for the Golden Knight attack as Rolland produced three shots, leading the frontline, with Josh Baraka and Morgan Burke connecting for two apiece in the later stages of the final 45. Even with the better share of chances Clarkson was ultimately forced to settle for attempts from range along with close misses on frame as the contest finished in a deadlock.
Clarkson led the way in shots (10-6) and shots on goal (4-1) while Oswego held a slight advantage in corners (4-3).
