CU Men's Soccer Preview - at Union College (10/20)

On the road for the final three regular-season games of 2018, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team looks to improve its position in the conference standings when it travels to face Union College on Saturday afternoon.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The Golden Knights own a modest advantage in 35 meetings against Union at 17-15-3, though Clarkson is unbeaten in its last four meetings (2-0-2) versus the Dutchmen. Union hasn't scored in the series since 2013, a stretch of 442 minutes, 20 seconds.

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-4-1, 3-3-1 Liberty League): Though he allowed two goals on Wednesday, senior goalkeeper Riley McDonald still leads the conference in both goals against average (0.38) and save percentage (.914) with five solo shutouts in eight starts. Overall, Clarkson has nine shutouts in 14 contests. At the start of the season, Henry Gomez and Drew Lewis were the main goal scorers for the Knights, but as defenses have focused more on them, others have emerged to produce goals. Sophomore Mack Walton has five points in the last two games, scoring twice and assisting on another, while junior Stephen Klimek has also tallied a point in each of the last two contests, scoring a goal versus Bard and assisting on Clarkson's score against Skidmore.

Key Stats for Union (5-8-0, 1-5-0 Liberty League): The Dutchmen's lone win in league play came against Rensselaer as Union has allowed 11 goals in six conference games, with goalkeeper Trevor Krupp keeping busy (28 saves) in those contests. Union's issues come mostly on defense with the team recording just a single shutout in 13 games during the 2018 season. Offense isn't a problem thanks to Salvador Perez, the Liberty League's leader in points (20, 1.54 ppg) and goals (8, .615 gpg). Perez also ranks second in the conference in shots per game (3.38). He is bolstered by the presence of Connor Horan and Jason Miller, both having tallied seven points this year. Union has scored 80% of its goals in the first half, producing 16 in the first 45 minutes of contests against just four goals in the final 45 minutes of games.
