CU Men's Soccer Preview - vs Skidmore (10/22)

Two weeks remain in the Liberty League regular season and the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team is in the hunt for a conference playoff berth. The Golden Knights will have a chance to move up in the standings when Skidmore comes to Potsdam for Clarkson's Senior Day.

Clarkson is 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Liberty League. The Green and Gold are just two points out of the fourth and final conference playoff spot and three back of second place. After two consecutive one goal defeats, Clarkson bounced back with a 1-0 win at Union. Leading scorer Kevin Calnan grabbed the game-winning goal against the Dutchmen, his fourth goal of the year and his second game-winning goal. Calnan now has a career-high 12 points on the season. Henry Gomez had the assist on Calnan's goal and he becomes the fourth Clarkson player with at least one goal and one assist, joining Calnan, Aiden Subra (3 goals and one assist) and Eric Herberger (one goal and one assist). Chris Jupin, Drew Lewis, Jon Jones, Stephen Klimek, and Erick Naula all have two points so far, with the first four scoring one goal apiece and Naula notching two assists.

Michael King made five saves in his shutout of Union, completing his seventh shutout of the season, a new career high. King leads the Liberty League in goals against average (.589), shutouts (7), and save percentage (.881) and is second in saves (59). King has helped captain a Clarkson defense that is allowing just .59 goals per game, the 21st best mark in the country. King is eighth in the country in save percentage and 20th in goals against average while the Golden Knights are 25th in shutout percentage.

Skidmore comes in with a 5-5-3 overall record and a 2-1-2 conference mark. The Thoroughbreds started the conference schedule with ties against Vassar and Hobart before knocking off RIT and St.Lawrence with identical 2-0 scorelines. Their most recent game was a 1-0 loss to RPI. It was just the fourth time all season that the Thoroughbreds have been shutout. Kevin Santos leads the team with five goals and four assists despite playing in just eight games. Just behind him is Austin Okoye who has six goals and one assist. Clarkson has an all-time record of just 11-17-1 against Skidmore and is winless against the Thoroughbreds since 2002.

The two teams will kick off at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
