Union Shuts Out Clarkson, 1-0

Schenectady, NY - Although the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team was on the short end of a tough first half, it was a second half goal by Sebastiaan Jensen that sent the Golden Knights to a 1-0 loss to Union in the Liberty League opener.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference games, while Union moved to 4-2-0 and 1-0-0. Clarkson will play at Skidmore College tomorrow afternoon.

With an 11-4 deficit in shots in the first half, it seemed as if the Golden Knights had survived a barrage safely as the halftime score was 0-0. However, Jensen scored his goal from outside the 18-yard box just four minutes into the second half to give the Dutchmen the only goal they would need. From there, Clarkson and Union played evenly as neither had many opportunities to score (4-4 in shots, 1-1 in corner kicks) in the second half.

Freshman Scott Stuart (Ottawa, ONT) made three saves for the Golden Knights, while Union keeper Adam Marguiles had two saves. Union finished the game with a 15-8 lead in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corners.
