Clarkson Men and Women Place Fourth at Hoffmann Invitational

Sophomore Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) was once again the Clarkson University Cross Country team’s top runner against a challenging field as he placed 25th in the 18th annual Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational hosted by the St. Lawrence University on Saturday in Canton, NY. 

Benway posted a time of 27:18 over the 8k men's course to pace the Golden Knight Men to a fourth-place showing (100 points) in the seven-team event. St. Lawrence University’s Dan Ramsey claimed the individual title with a time of 25:08. Cortland State took five of the top seven finishes en route to the team-title (20 pts.) 

Sophomore Neal Campbell (Queensbury, NY) was the Green and Gold’s second-leading runner, finishing 31st (27:36). Senior Andrew Nadeau (Irondequoit, NY) came in 36th (27:58). He was followed by sophomore Matt Gammariello (Webster, NY), who placed 43rd (28:22) and classmate Tim Sick (
Chambersburg, PA) in 46th (28:39).

Host St. Lawrence finished in second place with a total of 41 points while the University of Ottawa was third with 88.  Clarkson was fourth overall with 100 points, followed by Paul Smith's (165), SUNY Canton (183) and Potsdam State (193). 

A pair of sophomores paced the Clarkson University Women’s Cross Country team to a fourth-place showing (111 pts) in the Hoffmann Invitational 6k race. Audrey Keene (Hilton, NY) and Maureen Hill (Latham, NY) finished 33rd (26:04) and 35th (26:10), respectively. Classmate Bethann Parmelee (Waverly, NY) followed closely behind at 40th (26:55). Freshman Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) placed 41st (27:01) and classmate Jessica Hernandez (Owego, NY) came in 45th (27:32).

St. Lawrence earned eleven top-20 finishes to earn the team title (18 pts), with Wendy Pavlus claiming the individual crown with a time of 22:20. 

St. Lawrence won the Hoffmann Invitational having defeated Cortland State for the first time in over two years.  The Red Dragons were second (47), followed by the University of Ottawa (84), Clarkson (111), Paul Smith's (145) and SUNY Canton (170).
