Benway Leads Clarkson to CCOC Title

Sophomore Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) led the Clarkson University Men’s Cross Country team to the title in Cross Country Only Conference (CCOC) Championship on Saturday at Seneca Lake State Park. The Golden Knight Women placed second (78 points).

 

Benway finished in second place out of a 114-runner field with a time of 25:36.13 over the 8-kilometer course. The Golden Knights posted 27 points in the 14-team race. Daemen came in second with 87 points. Sophomore Maureen Hill (Latham, NY) paced the Clarkson women over the 5k course with a 10th-place time of 20:34.09. Daemen won the women’s event with 37 points.

The Clarkson Men place five runners in the top 10 to gain the CCOC title for the second straight year. Sophomore Neal Campbell (Queensbury, NY) finished fourth (26:50.95), followed by sophomore Tim Sick (Chambersburg, PA)in 6th (27:08.57). Senior Andrew Nadeau (Irondequoit, NY) placed seventh (27:14.67) and sophomore Matt Gammariello (Webster, NY) came in eighth (27:20.35).

Along with Hill, the Golden Knight women had five runners in the top 20 of their event. Sophomore Bethann Parmelee (Waverly, NY) placed 15th (21:04.42), followed by sophomore Audrey Keene (Hilton, NY) in 16th (21:05.43), freshmen Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) and Jessica Hernandez (Owego, NY) in 18th (21:16.23) and 19th (21:17.73), respectively.
