WE ARE GOLDEN KNIGHTS - Investing in the Future of Clarkson Hockey

Since the 1920's Clarkson Hockey has fought hard to establish itself as a legacy program in the College Hockey Landscape.  The Men's program is among the Top Ten NCAA Division I programs in most major metrics, including All Time Wins and Winning Percentage, & All Time All-American Selections.  In the 26 seasons the Women's Program quickly has established themselves as one of the top programs in Division I Hockey, with 3 National Titles and one of the top producers of PWHL and Olympic talent.  Over this time span, Clarkson has been one of the smallest schools (based on enrollment) competing at the NCAA Division I level, but has continued to adapt allowing them to remain relevant in the college hockey landscape.

The "NIL" Era has now been established in college athletics which brings a new set of challenges for all programs big and small.  Much like the spirt of the student body at Clarkson, new challenges just mean finding new solutions, so we have begun to explore ways to remain competitive that are outlined below.

With the implementation of the House settlement reshaping the Division I athletics model, institutions now have the ability to opt into a revenue-sharing framework that will significantly impact competitive balance. Within our immediate landscape, some ECAC schools have already opted in, and it is widely expected that several more will follow in the near future. Nationally, programs across all conferences including but not limited to; the Big Ten Conference, Hockey East, and the NCHC, many of whom are key out-of-conference competitors, have also made this move, signaling a clear and accelerating shift across college hockey.

In response, the Athletic Department is actively evaluating and preparing to opt into revenue sharing beginning with the 2027–28 academic year. This proactive step is essential to ensure our men's and women's hockey programs remain nationally competitive and aligned with the rapidly evolving structure of Division I athletics.

Below are several links that can help give an in-depth look at the new landscape of college athletics and
how Clarkson is implementing them.
