Knights Play to First Scoreless Tie of 2026 At Union

Schenectady, NY – Chances were few and far between in the opening half, and though the second half had more opportunities, both the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team and host Union College came up scoreless in a 0-0 Liberty League draw Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-3-1 and 1-1-1 in the Liberty League, while Union had its record go to 2-3-3 and 0-0-1 in its first conference contest.

Only two shots were taken by either team in the first 30-plus minutes of the game, both wide attempts by the Garnet Chargers, while Clarkson had its first high shot at the 34:04 mark. It wasn't until Jamie Dahlgard booted one from about 25 yards out that there was a shot on goal, but that was easily scooped up on one hop by Maya Koster. Perhaps the best chance for the Knights came off a corner kick around the 40-minute mark when Riley Irvin's service went just a bit too high for either team to put a head on it as it sailed through the box and towards the other corner without an actual attempt on the frame.

The second half did see more shot attempts by Union, but the first three were blocked by Clarkson before they got close to the goal. Kayla Coviello nearly got the Chargers on the board but Kenzie Roth was able to get a couple of fingers on the shot and ticked the attempt off the crossbar. Union ended up with two more shots on goal around the midway point of the half, but again Roth was able to corral one in the 66th minute by Ashley Sheldon on her high attempt, while Taylor Bovardi's shot was tipped out of bounds by Roth in the 71st minute.

Union finished with an 11-4 edge in shots, but the margin was considerably smaller in terms of shots on goal at 3-2. Union also held a lead in corners at 4-2. Roth finished with three saves and Koster posted two saves for Union.
