Potsdam, NY – With a dominating effort from start to finish, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team never took its foot off the pedal in a 3-0 non-league win over crosstown foe SUNY Potsdam Tuesday night at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-3-0 on the season and return to conference play this weekend as the team travels to take on Union College. SUNY Potsdam fell to 2-4-2.

Clarkson had near misses on the Potsdam goal from start to finish, including two off direct kicks from Riley Irvin in the opening half that just sailed over the crossbar. Regardless, the Knights were able to put a tally on the scoreboard midway through the half. Callie Abel sent a ball near the top of the penalty box where Ella Intrieri did a quick flick forward, allowing Gabrielle Cyganik to rush to the open space and tap the ball in at 27:27 for a 1-0 lead.

The Green and Gold held a 12-1 lead in shots at the half, though Potsdam's lone attempt near the end of the opening 45 minutes was smothered by Kenzie Roth when she was able to beat Mikayla Jaros to the spot before the latter could get a stronger foot on the ball.

Clarkson poured the pressure on even more in the second half, with numerous attempts going just wide, but the Knights didn't have to wait long to get their next score. Riley Irvin had a corner kick from the right side line and sent a ball into the box that bounced around a few times, finding the head of Kate Walsh. Her attempt went off the crossbar and looked like it was in, but it bounced out to Madison Jakubek, who tapped the ball over for Ella Ramsdell at 52:24 for a 2-0 lead.

Several more attempts were wide for the Knights as the team tried to pick up an insurance goal late in the contest. The Knights made sure to play until the final buzzer. Quickly countering off a goal kick with less than 30 seconds left in the contest, Ella Intrieri sent a long pass up the right side line for Cyganik, who raced against the clock to try and get one more shot off. Instead, she chose to cross the ball over for Valentina Fasciano, and her shot was taken just before the final second ticked off, rolling over the goal line as the horn sounded for a 3-0 Clarkson win.

The Knights ended the game with a 26-1 lead in total shots and a 13-1 edge in shots on goal, as well as a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Kenzie Roth made one save for the shutout, while Caroline Vines had 10 stops for Potsdam.
