Knights Suffer First Liberty League Loss at RIT, 2-0

Rochester, NY – A pair of second-half goals put the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team down and in much need of offense, but that push never came for the Golden Knights as they suffered x-x defeat against RIT in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play while RIT picked up its first league win to move to 2-2-1 and 1-0-0. Clarkson has a rest from league play on Tuesday when it hosts SUNY Potsdam at Hantz Field.

Shots came infrequently at the start of the contest, though the Knights had their first shot on goal in the opening minute, albeit from roughly 35 yards away that was easily handled by the RIT defense. Kenzie Roth made a pair of solid saves in the opening 20 minutes, stopping one by hugging the post at 10:54 and then making another save on a high shot to the far post at 16:18 that she was able to deny then smother.

RIT turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, getting two goals around the midway point of the period. The first came off a quick transition when the Knights had a goalie punt that cross the midfield line, but the Tigers produced a header forward to get the offense going. From deep in the corner on the left side, Emma Pedro sent a cross towards the six where Sarah Tawaf was able to settle the ball with her lower body and took one step to her left before knocking the ball in at 56:23.

The Tigers added another goal 12 minutes later, with the offense beginning via throw-in on the right side. RIT handled the ball on that side before reversing the field. On a shot or cross that was near the center of the penalty area, Kenzie Roth was able to come out and collect the ball, but she dropped it when her body hit the ground, allowing Elliot McSkimin to jump on the opportunity and kick the ball into the vacated net at 68:33.

Clarkson had a chance to cut the margin in half with about 10 minutes left in the game when Callie Abel rushed up the left side line with an RIT defender on her shoulder. She was able to maneuver around to get one shot off despite stumbling, and then had another shot denied by the RIT defense despite still being on the ground, but the ball was cleared away and Clarkson was unable to get on the board.

RIT finished with a 14-6 lead in shots and a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Tigers also led in corners by a count of 4-1. Kenzie Roth finished with five saves and Ashton Anderson had three saves for RIT.
