Knights Open 2026 Season with Three-Set Sweep of Plattsburgh State

Plattsburgh, NY – Sophomore Conley Burns recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs to headline a well-rounded offense as the Clarkson University Volleyball team swept its season-opener on the road, downing Plattsburgh State 25-18, 25-15, 25-20 on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights will be at home this coming weekend, when the team takes on SUNY Cobleskill, Brockport, and Middlebury.

It took a few moments for the Knights to get rolling in the opening set, finding themselves down by three just nine points into the contest. Coach Carol LaMarche took a timeout to reset the team, and Clarkson came out swinging, as Ainslie Reimer picked up three kills in a short stretch to give the Green and Gold their first lead of the day. Conley Burns then got into the act with a handful of kills from the outside, putting the Knights up by five (14-9) and forcing Plattsburgh to call for a break in hopes of halting the momentum. Clarkson pushed its advantage to seven (16-9) before the Cardinals clawed back with six straight points, capped by a kill from Emily O'Brien, but the Knights halted the run. Up by two (19-17), Clarkson went on a 5-0 run, finished off by an ace from Olivia Baxter, and then closed out the game two points later.

In set number two, Clarkson was again down early, but used a run of five straight kills to take an 11-4 advantage. Plattsburgh never really challenged the Knights in the second set, getting back to within six only once as Clarkson kept the margin at a safe distance. The Green and Gold closed out the second set off an ace from Brianna Hale, willing by double digits.

The third set was oddly close since Plattsburgh hit negative in the game (-0.022) with nine kills and 10 errors, but the Cardinals always seemed to get points when they needed. Plattsburgh took its first lead at 14-13 off a kill from Brooke Anderson and still led four points later on a kill by Liya Girma. However, Chase Chudoba responded with a kill to tie the set at 16, beginning a rush of five straight points for Clarkson. A modest margin was maintained the rest of the way, and a kill by Ainslie Reimer ended the set and the match.

Burns had 10 kills and 14 digs, while Reimer nearly had a double-double as well with nine kills and 11 digs. Brianna Hale posted 28 assists and 11 digs while both Trinity Simon and Chase Chudoba had seven kills, with the latter also adding in three block assists. Olivia Baxter picked up three aces and also notched 18 digs in the match.
