Potsdam, N.Y. - Sydney Nakas and Makenna Cassin both eclipsed the 100 career point mark on the afternoon as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team blanked Bard College, 21-0, at Hantz field on Saturday. The shutout win is the first for the program since a 21-0 win that also came against Bard in 2016.
Entering the day in the sixth spot for the league standings, Clarkson improves to 10-6 overall, 4-5 in the Liberty League and will turn their focus to next Saturday as they travel to Vassar for a matchup that could have high playoff implications. Bard falls to 1-11 overall, 0-8 in conference play.
Cassin opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest with Gabby Cranfield setting the junior up in front of the goal, setting the tone for a dominant offensive performance from the Knights. Cranfield would score the next before the ten-minute mark with an unassisted tally before setting Cassin up for the game's third score less than 60 seconds later.
Morgan Kenna and Lauren McCorry produced the next three goals for Clarkson who would then lead 7-0 before the five minute mark of the opening quarter as Cassin added another at the 10:15 mark. Nakas notched her 100th career point on an assist to Karli Scherpf with 2:35 left in the first as Clarkson led 10-0 upon the end of the first fifteen.
The Golden Knight offense continued to click in the second as the team would score seven more times before the half. Brooklynne Perrigo, Scherpf and Audrey Burke all tallied one each while Ava Goyette and Cassin added two apiece.
The lone scoring of the second half for either side came entirely within the third quarter as Clarkson added another four. Goals from Kenna and Goyette would be followed by a pair from Jane Goodwin and Abie Leighton as Clarkson would standfast on the defensive end through the final quarter for the 21-0 victory.
Riley Donovan and Jennaca McGill would combine in goal for Clarkson with Donovan earning her 10th win of the year in the start. Donovan finished with two saves while McGill made three to give the team their first shutout win of the campaign. Kayla Zehr, Madison Kolstad, Kenna and Cassin all would cause two turnovers on the defensive end while Zehr and Caroline Kloc nabbed four and three groundballs, respectively. On the offensive end, Cranfield would post one goal and eight assists for nine points while Goyette and Cassin both had five apiece.
Lexie Blackburn would make 13 saves for the Raptors who also received three caused turnovers from Gwyn Downie and two from Fae Johnson.
