Baseball Drops Sunday Matchup with Lakers

Clinton, N.Y. - Unable to string consistent hits together on the day, the Clarkson University Baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision to Oswego State, Sunday afternoon on the campus of Hamilton College.

Clarkson drops to 3-2 with the loss and will return to action in Florida on Thursday, March 12th, with a doubleheader versus Calvin University. Oswego breaks into the win column for the first time in 2026, improving to 1-6.

Oswego would break a scoreless first two innings with two runs in the top of the third despite an early double play from the Clarkson infield to get the first two outs of the frame. Thomas Harrington produced a two-strike single before a triple off the bat of Dylan Rosenberg brought Harrington in for the opening score. Rosenberg would then score on the very next play following a fielding error by the Golden Knight infield to make it 2-0.

The Lakers would add two more in the top of the fourth and threaten to add more with runners on first and third and just one out. Dan Horowitz forced two groundouts in the next at-bats to limit the damage done on the scoreboard. Clarkson then led off the bottom half of the fourth with four straight hits, including doubles from Zach Rider, David Harris and Beau Vardion to cut the deficit in half, making it 4-2 headed into the fifth.

Oswego would threaten again in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with just one out before plating three more insurance runs courtesy of a wild pitch and single through the right side, bumping their advantage to 7-2. Into the bottom half of the frame, David Harris drove in his second run of the game with a single through the right side to bring Joe Figliolino across to score who had kept the inning alive with a two-out triple.

The Lakers would then tack on two more in the top of the seventh while their relief corps on the mound would allow just two hits over the final three half-innings in the 9-3 final.

Rider, James Chagnon, Figliolino, Harris, Vardion, Devin Kobasa and CJ Kanick would account for the Clarkson hits for the afternoon as Harris would drive in two runs in a 2-4 effort at the plate. Horowitz would be credited with the loss for the Knights, striking out one while surrendering six hits in four innings of work. Mason Sands earned the win on the mound for Oswego, fanning six batters while giving up six hits through six innings.
