Knights Defense Squeezes Lakers in 14-1 Win

Oswego, NY – Leading from wire to wire, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team continued its impressive defensive start to the season and added a healthy dose of offense in a 14-1 win over Oswego State on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-0 on the season while Oswego State fell to 1-1. Clarkson next takes on SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson allowed just a single goal to the Lakers on Wednesday, coming midway through the second quarter. Over the final 27 minutes of last Saturday's win over Nazareth, the Knights allowed just one goal, putting Clarkson's defensive prowess at just two goals given up in the last 87 minutes.

While the Golden Knights' defense was restricting Oswego's chances, the Clarkson offense was consistent, producing three goals or more in each of the quarters, including five in the third to put the game away. Eleven different players scored at least one point and nine players scored at least one goal. Robert Fox did the heavy lifting for the Knights, scoring six points on four goals and two assists, while Peter Siracuse found the back of the net for three goals. Mario Streiff also produced four points on a goal and three assists.

Clarkson dominated in all facets of the game, including on faceoffs, where Jamie Rhoades won 14 of his 17 tries and added seven groundballs. Clarkson won the battle of shots 58-19 and the level of shots on goal was a similar percentage lead at 36-12. The Knights had 35 groundballs to Oswego's 14 and the Green and Gold limited the Lakers to just 16-of-28 on clears.

Griffin Emerson made 10 saves on 11 shots on goal and Chris Kozlowski added a save down the stretch for the Knights. At the Lakers end, Seamus Hand had 19 saves on 32 shots on goal and his relief, Tyler Novak, made three saves and allowed one goal in the final minutes.
