CU Women's Basketball Preview - at RIT/Ithaca (2/6-7)

With just three weekends of Liberty League regular season action remaining, the Clarkson University Women's basketball team travels downstate to take on RIT and Ithaca on Friday and Saturday.

The Series: RIT left Potsdam with a 68-53 victory on the 24th of January despite 14 points apiece from Fallon Griffin and Addie Kea. The Tigers finished shooting 57% (11-19) from three-point range. Clarkson defeated Ithaca in the first meeting between the teams on January 23rd, the first time that the Knights had beaten the Bombers since the latter joined the Liberty League in the 2017-18 season. Griffin dumped in a career-high 26 points leading a 20-plus team point effort in both of the second half quarters for the Knights. 

Key Stats for Clarkson (8-11, 4-8 Liberty League): The Golden Knights enter an important weekend series sitting at 7th place in the league, just ahead of ahead of Ithaca. Griffin leads the team in scoring with a 14.2 points per game average which ranks second in the league, just .4 ppg behind the leader. The junior from Angola, NY is averaging 18.7 points per game over her past three outings and ranks within the top three in the league for field goal percentage (41%), three-point field goal percentage (37%) and three-point field goals per game (2.6). Kea leads the Liberty League with 80 assists, averaging 4.2 helpers a game. 

Key Stats for RIT (13-6, 10-2 Liberty League): The Tigers swept William Smith and Ithaca in home matchups last weekend, extending their win-streak to six, all in conference play. Maddy Ramsgard produced a season-best 21 points against the Bombers which improves her points average over the past three games to 15.7. Erin DiPaola dished out a career-high eight assists, contributing to 18 team assists overall versus Ithaca. RIT find themselves in second place in the league standings behind Union. 

Key Stats for Ithaca (7-12, 4-8 Liberty League): The Bombers go into the weekend on a four-game losing streak, albeit, all losses have come against teams holding higher positions than them. Zoraida Icabalceta followed a season-high 16 points against Union last Friday with 14 against RIT on Saturday, improving on a 7.8 points per game average prior to those two outings. Overall, Ithaca allows the second-most points per game in the league (69.2 ppg) but owns the third-best scoring offense (61.9 ppg).
