CU Men's Basketball Preview - at RIT/Ithaca (2/6-7)

On the road to start February, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team travels to RIT and Ithaca to take on the Tigers and Bombers on Friday and Saturday.

The Series: Wins over both teams provided Clarkson with their first league weekend series sweep of the 2025-26 campaign. Steve DeRegis led five Knights in double-figures with 20 points versus the Tigers where the team would shoot 53% (29-55) overall. The Knights reversed a five-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Bombers 51-29 in the second half alone. Lorenzo Rappa finished with a career-best 21 points while DeRegis added 16. 

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-10, 4-8 Liberty League): The Golden Knights tallied a season-high 98 points against Bard on Friday, shooting 56% (32-57) from the field and 55% (18-33) from three in the win but would score just 51 points versus Vassar on Saturday, shooting 25% (16-64) from the field and just 13% (5-39) from three. Braeden Burns leads Clarkson with a 16.8 points per game average. Scoring nine against Vassar on Saturday broke a ten game streak for the junior where he had finished in double-digits in scoring in each outing over that time.


Key Stats For RIT (5-14, 2-10 Liberty League): The Tigers broke an eight game losing streak in league play last Friday, defeating Hobart 81-80 at home before losing to Ithaca on Saturday. Josiah Turner scored 12 and 22 over both contests, leading the team against the Bombers, the graduate student is averaging 13.8 points per game coming into the weekend. Forward Nigel Pierman has finished in double-digits for scoring in each of the last four games including a career-high 18 against St. Lawrence on January 23rd. 


Key Stats for Ithaca (7-12, 6-6 Liberty League): The Bombers hold the fifth spot in the Liberty League standings prior to this weekend's matchups coming off a win versus RIT on Saturday but blew a 22-point halftime lead at Union on Friday. Evan Cabral and Matthew Zenker are the only players scoring in double-figures on average with marks of 19.2 and 15.4 points per game, respectively. Cabral led the Bombers with 27 against Union and has yet to be held under 11 points yet this year. As a team Ithaca scores the ball the second-highest in the league per game (79.0) but with the second-worst defense hold a negative total points margin (-0.8) per outing.
