Knights Open 2026 with Loss at 11th-Ranked St. John Fisher

Rochester, NY – Junior Gabby Cranfield scored two goals and two assists to hit the 100-point plateau for her career, but the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team got off to a slow start against 11th-ranked St. John Fisher and fell in the season-opener 18-7 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights open the season at 0-1 but will look to regroup this weekend when the team takes on Oswego State. A time and site for that location is yet to be determined due to complications from recent snow storms.

The opening quarter was heavily tilted towards St. John Fisher with the Golden Knights showing how little they have been able to be outside on full turf this winter. The Cardinals scored eight goals in the first 15 minutes before the game evened out as Clarkson began to settle in. During the second and third quarters, the scoring was a virtual lock at 6-5 thanks to the Knights scoring three times while up a player. Near the midway point of the third quarter, Fisher was able to force a running clock, but two goals in the final two minutes by the Knights returned to regular time. It wasn't until the halfway point of the fourth that the clock would run continuously for the remainder of the contest.

Cranfield led the Golden Knights' offense with four points on two goals and two assists while both Sydney Nakas (2-0-2) and Makenna Cassin (1-1-2) also had multi-point games. Morgan Kenna and Brooklynne Perrigo each added a goal and Annie Dufault produced an assist. Karli Scherpf also posted three caused turnovers, two groundballs, and two draw controls for the Knights.

For St. John Fisher, Dharma Makarowsky had six points on four goals and two assists. Chloe Scanlan scored three times, Kaley Griffin had two goals and an assist, and Chelsea Mesick recorded one goal and two assists. Maddie Lowney had a solid all-around game with six draws, five caused turnovers, and five groundballs.

St. John Fisher outshot Clarkson 29-14 in terms of total attempts, while the shots on goal proved to be a 19-10 gap. Each team had 18 groundballs and had a similar rate of clears, but the Cardinals won 18 of the 27 draw controls. Maggie Cross made five saves in the crease for St. John Fisher while Riley Donovan had six saves and Jennaca McGill had zero saves in their combined time between the posts for Clarkson.
