A number of new faces will be on the court and the sideline for the Clarkson University Volleyball team this fall, as more than half of the Golden Knights roster for 2025 are in their first season for the Green and Gold.

Guided by 11th-year head coach Carol LaMarche and first-year assistant Sara Da Silva, Clarkson has a number of talented newcomers to augment a strong group of returning players that once again reached the Liberty League Tournament in 2024. Clarkson looks to return to the conference tournament once again with the season starting this weekend in Ohio.

Clarkson has a few holes to fill from a year ago, as Liberty League All-Star Abigail Spector, the team's starting libero and the conference leader in digs per set in 2023 and 2024, and three-time Liberty League All-Star middle Allyson Treichel have departed due to graduation. Tess Sorel, a contributor both on offense and on defense, also graduated early, leaving another spot open in the starting lineup.

The Golden Knights return their two top outsides from a year ago in senior Marin Hangliter and sophomore Grace Hanson. Hangliter posted her best matches of 2024 in the final five weeks of the season, reaching double figures in kills eight times, including 17 with a .333 hitting percentage in the Liberty League Semifinals against William Smith. Hanson also got stronger as the season went on, as she averaged 3.35 kills per set in conference matches, including a ridiculous 23-kill performance in a four-set win over Union late in the year.

Feeding those two the ball again this year is senior Ashley Currier, who served as a utility player in Clarkson's early 6-2 system before returning to a 5-1 when grad student Anna Mayer was injured at the midway point of the campaign. Currier contributed 5.36 assists, 1.02 kills, 2.58 digs, 0.44 blocks, and 0.29 aces per set, with the assists number dropping due to the split system at the start of the year. Currier once again will run the offense, which will have plenty of talented new options from which to choose.

A Clarkson libero has led the Liberty League in digs per set every year but one since 2016, and next in line for that title is Olivia Baxter, who will take over for Spector in the different colored jersey. Baxter's sister, Emma, led the conference in digs per set in 2021 and 2022, and Olivia was solid in her first collegiate season with 1.96 digs per game. She was also a force from the service line, averaging 0.58 aces per set, including 26 in 26 conference sets. Junior Emma Cortez is also a candidate for the libero spot, as she averaged 1.57 digs per set in 2024. At the very least, the duo will see plenty of time in the back row in one form or another. Cecilia Velardi, a senior this fall, is out for the season as she is studying away from Clarkson, but she will return to create a formidable back row in 2026.

Junior Emily Alexander will certainly see time in the middle and on the rightside this season, hoping to top her 1.28 kills per set from a year ago with more opportunities. Senior Haley Currier also served a number of roles last year, working in the back row and up front. She finished with 0.53 kills, 0.58 digs, and 0.16 blocks per set in 2024.

Coach LaMarche was busy on the recruiting trails in the off-season and bolstered the team with talent at every position. Transfer Ainslie Reimer, who spent the last two years at Houghton, should join the team's lineup. An outside with the Highlanders, Reimer averaged 2.07 kills and 3.73 digs per set a year ago while also being excellent on serve receive at .946 with a team-high 578 attempts. Other new hitters for the team include Conley Burns, Jordyn Leader, and Georgia Thurmond, while additional middles include Abigail Ulrich and Briella Clinton. Newcomers to the Clarkson back row are Izzy Piano and Alyciana Alvira, while Natasha Aguirre joins the Knights as a first-year setter.
