Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Knights Win 14-4 Over Western Connecticut State for Fifth Straight Victory

Auburndale, FL - For the fourth time this year, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team shut down its opponent at the start of the second half with a scoreless third quarter as the Golden Knights cruised to a 14-4 victory over Western Connecticut State on Monday.

The Golden Knights moved to 6-2 on the year while the Wolves fell to 3-5. Clarkson returns to Potsdam this week and hosts Union College on Saturday to begin the Liberty League portion of the schedule.

Clarkson registered goals on its first eight shots on the frame through the first quarter and the start of the second, rolling to an 8-1 lead less than 17 minutes into the contest. Though things evened out after a goalie change for the Wolves, Clarkson was still busy peppering the West Conn goal. In the third quarter, the Knights received goals from Mario Streiff, Ian Erskine, and a late tally from Alex Alfieri to put the score at 12-3. Two more goals early on in the fourth all but ended the contest as the Knights coasted the rest of the way.

Four different players had multiple goals for Clarkson, but it was Vincent Lavarnway who led the team with three points thanks to a goal and two assists. Streiff, Erskine, Connor Matthews, and Andrew Kearney each scored twice. Logan Wilkinson won 11-of-18 faceoffs and had seven groundballs and Matt Szwagulinski caused four turnovers and scooped up five groundballs. Griffin Emerson was solid between the pipes, making 10 saves and allowing four goals before being relieved late in the contest. For the Wolves, Jake Kelly made 15 saves in the final three quarters.

Clarkson finished the game with a 47-28 edge in shots (29-14 in shots on goal) and also had a 37-24 lead in groundballs.
