Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Knights fall to UCONN 3-2

Despite a fast start and strong effort throughout, the No. 9 Clarkson University Women's Hockey team came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 3–2 to No. 12 UConn at Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights held a lead in the second period, but the Huskies rallied with a pair of second-period goals to earn the comeback win and a weekend split in the non-conference series.

UCONN jumped out to a 1–0 lead at the 7:00 minute mark of the opening frame.  The near midway through the first period, the Knights tied it up when Lara Beecher buried a rebound past UConn goaltender Tia Chan. Beecher's second of the season was assisted by Sena Catterall and Keira Hurry at 11:51.

Clarkson doubled its advantage early in the second period when Manon le Scodan fired home her first of the year off feeds from Sara Manness and Jenna Smellie, giving the Knights a 2–1 lead at 1:47.

UConn answered back on a power play midway through the frame. Kyla Josifovic converted with the advantage at 9:26, assisted by Brooke Campbell and Meghane Duchesne-Chalifoux, tying the game 2–2.  Just two minutes later, Campbell struck again—this time with the eventual game-winner—finishing off a setup from Megan Woodworth and Julia Stephen at 11:23 to give UConn its first lead of the night.

The Knights controlled much of the third period and outshot UConn 39–18 overall, but Chan stood tall in net, stopping 37 Clarkson attempts to secure the win. Clarkson had several late chances, including a power play and a net-front scramble in the closing seconds, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Holly Gruber finished with 15 saves for the Knights, while Chan's 37-save performance proved to be the difference for UConn.  Clarkson was 0-for-4 on the power play and UConn 1-for-1 on there chance.

The team will have a weekend off then prepare for a trip to Providence to face former Assistant Coach, Matt Kelly's Friars.
