Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Knights explode for 7 goals in win over RPI

The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team turned in a commanding performance Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 7-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Houston Field House. With the victory, the Golden Knights improved to 5-3-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey play.

After a tight opening period, Clarkson's offense came alive in the final 40 minutes to secure its second straight conference win.

Freshman Lara Beecher opened the scoring midway through the first period, finishing off a setup from Sara Manness to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. RPI briefly pulled even late in the frame on an unassisted tally by Nina Christof, but that would be the Engineers' lone highlight of the afternoon.

From there, Clarkson took control. The Golden Knights struck twice in the second period, capitalizing on sustained offensive pressure and strong puck movement to open up a 3-1 advantage.

The Knights didn't let up in the third, erupting for four goals in the final stanza to put the game out of reach. Manness jump-started the period with a goal just 35 seconds after the faceoff, and Clarkson's depth continued to shine as several players added to the scoring column.

Clarkson outshot RPI 45-18, dictating play throughout and showcasing its offensive depth and special teams strength.

With the win, Clarkson continues its strong start in ECAC Hockey play, while RPI drops to 1-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.

The Golden Knights will look to carry their momentum into next weekend as they return home to Cheel Arena for another ECAC matchup.
