Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Knights Outlast Ithaca on Senior Day, Capped by Reilly Goal

Potsdam, NY - With goals from seniors Andrew Kearney and Matt Reilly in the final four minutes, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team completed its fourth quarter comeback, staying alive in the Liberty League playoff picture in the process with a 13-12 win over Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights edged up to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca fell to 7-8 and 0-6. With a win over Vassar next Saturday and a Skidmore loss to Ithaca, Clarkson clinches a playoff spot as the five seed in the conference tournament.

Through three quarters, Clarkson had a small 8-7 lead when Sebastian Geiger scored with a little under five minutes to go in that third period. However, Ithaca came out with the first four goals of the fourth quarter, with the last goal from Peter Nowlan putting the Knights on their heels. However, Thomas Fiebich scored from Matt Reilly at 9:13 to halt the run and simultaneously began one for the Knights. Geiger scored at 7:59 and Reilly scored at 6:47 to tie the game at 11-11. Ithaca came right back with a goal from Jack Gianuzzi at 5:16, putting the Bombers back up one. Heroics were in store, however for two members of the Golden Knights' senior class. Kearney scored with 3:14 to go and Reilly then tallied at the 2:16 mark to put the Knights back up one.

Ithaca one the following faceoff, but Jack Garvey caused a turnover and the Knights did their best to run out as much clock as possible. Ithaca had one last chance but could not get another shot off in the remainder of the game.

Clarkson won the battle on shots (48-33) and has a 28-23 in shots on goal. Ithaca had 40 groundballs to Clarkson's 33, and the Bombers won 19 of 28 faceoffs. Cole Corrigan stopped 15 shots for Ithaca while Griffin Emerson made 10 saves in the final 45 minutes to pick up the win.

Reilly had six points on three goals and three assists, Geiger scored four goals, while both Fiebich and Alex Seiler notched three points. Matt Swagulinski was busy on defense, forcing five turnovers and scooping up four groundballs.

For Ithaca, Peter Nowlan scored four goals, Gianuzzi had three points and Chrirs Sohl scooped up 15 groundballs, mostly on faceoffs.
