Doyle Nets 21 In Knights Win at Lyndon

Lyndon, VT – Forcing turnovers and getting second chances on offensive rebounds, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team's tenacity allowed the Golden Knights to win their second straight game on the road, downing Vermont State University-Lyndon 63-35  on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Knights evened their overall record at 2-2 on the season and look to eclipse the .500 mark when the team takes on Plattsburgh State on Saturday.

The Knights never trailed in Wednesday's game, as Raelin Burns hit a corner 3-pointer 34 seconds into the contest, sparking a 7-0 run in the opening minutes. The points were distributed in the 15-point opening quarter, but the second quarter belonged to Bella Doyle. The junior forward scored 11 points in the second 10-minute stretch, many on layups as the Knights pushed their lead to as many as 19 in the quarter before finally settling at 17.

At the start of the third, it appeared as if Doyle might challenge for her career-high, as she scored four quick points to get to 19 with 6:08 remaining in the quarter. From the midpoint of the quarter, the Knights started to spread the ball, including six straight points from Addie Kea in the final three minutes to give the Knights a 29-point advantage. From that point on, the Golden Knights were on cruise control in the fourth quarter as they doubled up the Hornets until some late baskets trimmed the margin to a more respectable final.

Doyle shot 10-for-18 from the floor and recorded 21 points with seven rebounds. Dumont finished with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting in the game and Addie Kea nearly had a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

Overall, Clarkson finished with 20 offensive rebounds and forced 22 turnovers while committing just nine of their own.
