Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Plattsburgh Outlasts Knights 54-52

Plattsburgh, NY – Points were at a premium in the second half and Plattsburgh State scored just enough late to eke out a win over the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, 54-52, on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-3 on the year and will play one more game before the Thanksgiving break, heading down Pierrepont Avenue to play SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening.

Three 3-pointers early on allowed Plattsburgh to put up 20 points in the first quarter. Lauren LaFountain, Jaden Wilson, and Kathy Peterson-Ross each hit 3-pointers in a two-minute stretch near the close of the opening quarter to gain an 18-12 lead. At the start of the second period, the Cardinals expanded their lead to eight, only to see Clarkson go on a 9-0 run over the next four minutes, capped by a layup from Fallon Griffin at 5:52. The Cardinals regained the lead just 30 seconds later and maintained an advantage for the remainder of the half.

At the start of the third quarter, Bella Doyle made back-to-back baskets to put Clarkson in the lead once again. The Knights led for the majority of the third, but an Imani Walcott basket in the last minute allowed the Cardinals to squeak back ahead, 40-39. Clarkson went on another 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter, putting the team up by five at 6:37 when Doyle made another layup. Two more free throws from Doyle at 4:01 still had the Knights up by five, but Clarkson would only score two more points down the stretch. LaFountain buried a 3-pointer at 3:48 to narrow the gap to two and Walcott later finished a layup-and-one to gain the lead. The key for the Plattsburgh in the win was forcing two turnovers and holding the Knights to 0-for-3 shooting in its final five possessions, including two blocked shots from Kayla Johannesen.

Cassidy Dumont led the day with 14 points while Raelin Burns was right there with 13 points of her own. Bella Doyle also chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Knights.

For Plattsburgh State, Imani Walcott contributed 13 points, 8 boards, 3 blocks, and 4 steals. The Cardinals made seven 3-pointers to Clarkson's three 3-pointers from beyond the arc.
