CU Volleyball Preview - at Augustana Tournament (9/15-16)

A long trip and equally long weekend that will include four matches for the Clarkson University Volleyball team is on the docket for Friday and Saturday, as the Golden Knights will face four Midwest teams as a final tune-up before starting the Liberty League schedule in late-September.

Clarkson will face Adrian College and Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday and then take on Rose-Hulman and Augustana (IL) on Saturday. Both Platteville and Augustana are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III poll, with Augustana the second team outside of the top 25.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-0): The Golden Knights rank 16th in the nation in kills per set (13.32), holding an edge of nearly four kills per set over their opponents. Sara Galante leads the team with 3.63 kills per game to go along with 2.63 digs and 0.74 aces per set. Allyson Treichel has also produced 2.47 kills per set, while Julia Bennett is averaging 2.21 kills per set. Bennett is the team's top percentage hitter, posting a .429 line on 31 kills against just four errors in 63 swings. Abigail Spector leads the back row with 5.00 digs per set.

Key Stats for Adrian (2-5): Amber Morris is the clear offensive weapon for the Bulldogs, as she has taken 343 attacks, which is 205 more than any other player on the team and more than a third of the teams attacks. Morris has delivered 3.62 kills per set through seven matches. Grace Croci (1.56 kills, 0.84 blocks) and Ariel Gibson (1.32 blocks) also contribute at the net, while Haley Farrell averages 6.92 assists, 3.15 digs, and 0.50 aces per set.

Key Stats for Wisconsin-Platteville (7-1): The Pioneers are receiving votes in the national poll thanks to a strong offense. Platteville has a .234 hitting percentage, which ranks in the top 30 nationally, and averages 13.39 kills per set, 14th in the country thus far. Emma Carlson is hitting .255 and averages 3.58 kills per set, a tough combination of volume and consistency. Claudia Johnson is hitting .339 with 2.74 kills per set, and Madelyn Cooley contributes 2.28 kills per set at a .277 cli. Johnson also has 24 total blocks, 0.77 per set.

Key Stats for Rose-Hulman (4-3): The Fightin' Engineers are producing solid defensive numbers as Lily Ebright averages 6.04 digs per set, which currently ranks 11th in the country, and Allie Fults is knocking down opponents' attempts with 1.22 blocks per set, a number that has her tied for 16th nationally. On offense, Kate Wood leads the way with 2.81 kills per set, Megan Korte averages 2.44 kills per game, and Sophia Koop contributes 1.74 kills per set. Jillian Gregg gets the offense going with 7.04 assists per set and also contributes 2.44 digs per game.

Key Stats for Augustana (7-0): The host school for the tournament, Augustana is off to an unbeaten start with a strong service game and equally strong defense. The Vikings have posted 77 aces in just seven matches while getting aced themselves only 35 times, pushing their serve receive number close to .930. Emily Schipper is producing all around with 3.79 kills, 2.64 digs, and 0.64 blocks per set, while Jaden Julius also has 2.21 kills per game. Syd Krueger is hitting .316 with 1.21 kills per set, but her most impressive contribution comes at the net with 1.21 blocks per set, including 11 solo blocks.
