Knights Sweep Potsdam to Close Out Regular-Season

Potsdam, NY - For the second time in five weeks, the Clarkson University Volleyball team swept its crosstown foes in SUNY Potsdam, this time downing the Bears in straight sets (25-6, 25-14, 25-13) on Thursday evening at Maxcy Hall.

The Golden Knights pushed their mark to 17-8 on the season while Potsdam fell to 6-20. Clarkson heads to Schenectady next week when the team faces Union College in the first round of the Liberty League Playoffs.

In a repeat of the last time the teams met, the Golden Knights held Potsdam to a negative hitting percentage overall (-.063) and hit over .300 themselves. The Bears had just four kills against 10 errors in the opening set and then hit even in each of the next two sets.

In the first set, the Bears scored the first point only to see Clarkson score the next six and the rout was on. The Knights had a 9-1 run near the midway point of the set and also closed out the game with an 8-1 rush.

The next two sets were not quite so lopsided, but still finished with double-digit victories. Set two saw the Bears trailing by five (10-5) in the early going, but frequent errors pushed Clarkson's lead to 22-8. A late run made the second set's score more respectable. Potsdam hung around in the third set a little longer, staying within four (12-8) after the first 20 points. The margin was still just five at 16-11, but the Knights went on another run late, combining offense from numerous outlets as well as some solid serving, closing the set and match out with six straight points.

Ainslie Reimer led Clarkson with 11 kills and Conley Burns hit .429 (7-1-14) to headline the Knights' offense. Brianna Hale recorded 23 assists, Olivia Baxter had 14 digs, and Chase Chudoba had three blocks, including two solo efforts which pushed her season total to 27 solo blocks, the most by a Clarkson player since Rachel Reusch (41) in 2018.

For Potsdam, Ashley Shiu had six kills, Gabriella Luna notched 12 assists, and Rachel Madore recorded 13 digs.
