POTSDAM, NY - Clarkson will advance to face Cornell after a 5-1 win over the Brown Bears in the ECAC Opening Round at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Romano paced the Knights with two goals one of which was the game-winner.
Clarkson would get the start they wanted as they jumped out to a 15 to 8 shot advantage in the 1st period, and
Noah Beck put the Knights on the board at 6:51 with a shot over the blocker of Brown's Mathieu Caron.
Anthony Romano would make it 2-0 at 5:31 of the 2nd period, as he broke in the zone and rifled a backhand up over the shoulder of the Bears goalie for his 8th of the season.
The 3rd period would tighten up quickly as Brown scored just 21 seconds in, as Jordan Tonelli was able to pop in a loose puck in front.
Romano's 2nd of the night came at 4:34 and would give the Knights some breathing room. A Brown defenseman would turn the puck over at his own blueline allowing Romano to collect the puck and put the shot blocker side on Caron.
Brown pulled their goalie at the 3:10 mark and after a series of face-offs,
Mathieu Gosselin would come out of the scrum with the puck and chip it off the boards to
Ryan Richardson who was able to score on the empty net giving the Knights the 4-1 lead at 19:22. The Knights would get a power-play goal at 19:48 when
Luke Mobley would get his first of the season and the Knights would seal up the win.
Ethan Haider would make 26 saves for the Knights, 12 in the 3rd period as Brown had a big push. Clarkson was 1 for 2 on the power play, while holding Brown to 0 for 1 on the power play.
